- Cub scouts designed for the Minecraft generation / by James Huggins

I read an article recently written by Vimeo founder Zach Klein called 'How Minecraft and Duct tape wallets prepare our children for jobs that don't exist yet', where he talks about his new project Described as a sort of cub scouts for the digital generation I thought it was worth checking out and well, I'm glad I did. is essentially a platform for kids to come together as makers, inventors, artists etc. and earn badges by completing various challenges, much like you would as a cub scout.

The difference is that the badges you can earn range from the interesting 'Hacker' and 'Makeup Artist' to the downright nutty 'Summerologist', for those who can achieve maximum relaxation during the summer holidays. The point here is that doesn't dictate the areas of interest but focuses on rewarding and sharing the fruits of your childs labour, whatever that might be. We were a little sceptical at first, so tried it out with our two children aged 7 and 9 and now we're hooked.

If you want a really easy, fun and simple way to encourage the kids to go out and try something new this summer then is more than worth a look.
